Honouring God through service & discipleship.
At the core of who Jesus is, lies a man who came ‘not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many’ (Mark 10:45).
Because of what Jesus has done for us, we deem it an absolute honour, privilege and joy to serve him with our time, talents and treasure. At The Well, we have a variety of ministries that are focused on serving our church and the local community. We believe we have been saved to serve.
Should you wish to serve or be part of our ministries, there’s a spot for you and we’d love your help!
Our Women’s Ministry is the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. This ministry has the purpose of enhancing our knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, so that we can praise, worship, and glorify him in spirit and in truth.
The mission: To strengthen our faith and continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by service and witness to the world.
The Sons of Allen Ministry, the official Men’s Ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, fosters an atmosphere where men are inspired through worship, study and prayer to have fellowship and relationship with God and their fellowmen.
The Sons of Allen will build men as providers, protectors, producers, and priests for their families and the community of the faithful.
The purpose of the Lay Organization is to organize and train the laity of the church, so each person may utilize the abilities and skills, granted by God, in assisting with the improvement and extension of God’s kingdom, and creating happiness, peace, and harmony among its members.
The Christian Education Department has the responsibility of developing standards, preparing programs, offering classes, teaching Christian education, publishing material, training people for pastoral ministry and other church vocations per the tradition and doctrine of the Church.
Richard Allen Young Adult Council, RAYAC as it is known, is our young adult ministry focused on forming and growing our relationship with Christ, developing young adults into Christian Leaders, and providing opportunities for Christian fellowship. The RAYAC is a group for young adults between the ages of 21-39.
The Allen Christian Evangelical League brings a message of hope to those who find themselves discouraged, in pain, despondent and in need of reassurance that we serve a living God who knows every need. The ministry leads men, women and youths to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and witnesses for Christ in their daily occupation.
The Music and Christian Arts Ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal Church educates, elevates and expands the arts in worship. Through workshops, teaching, training and example it is our goal to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry through music and the arts! MCAM is a place “Where faith meets the Arts” in the AME worship experience.
Under the leadership of the WMS, the Young People’s Division provides training in Evangelism, Christian Social Relations, and Education programs. The YPD ministry connects youth more fully to the mission of the church and increases scripture knowledge while offering opportunities for leadership experience in all areas of church life.
The Children’s Church Ministry is a heartfelt ministry that focuses on one of God’s most precious gifts, the little children. Children’s Church comes together in fellowship for ages 2 to 12 years of age. The ministry focuses on Biblical stories and discussions as well as age-appropriate arts, craft and songs to enliven God’s message. We also focus on Christian fellowship and building strong bonds between our youngest church members.
Life Groups, Small Groups or Classes are the heart of Methodism. New or transferring members are assigned to a class. It is the system put in place to ensure that no one does life alone! The goal of every Life Group is to Connect Believers to Build the Body; by helping spiritual seekers become transformed believers who model healthy spiritual and emotional lives and motivate others to do the same, through the teachings of Jesus.
Community Outreach is basic to ministry in the AME Church. Part of our ongoing outreach is assisting the homeless with food, clothes and blankets. We also work with community youth groups and children’s homes in upliftment projects. We believe that it is not only our duty to serve but to be the example that Jesus left when He stated (Mark 10:45) that “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”. His words drive our cause.
Church life includes not just Sunday worship, but active involvement in the family of God. AME Church at The Well is focused on enriching lives through our service to God and God’s people.
We believe that what we do within each ministry should flow purposefully out of what we value and love. God has gifted each of us with a particular set of skills to do just that in Durban. Involvement in the ministries of the church gives each member an opportunity to serve and helps us to build a better sense of being members of the church family. Volunteers and contributions are always welcome.
